Minimum group size: four individuals.

Day 1
Departure at noon from San José, traveling through high mountains and extensive plain lands, to arrive in to Puerto Jiménez harbor for dinner and lodging.
Day 2
After breakfast, a 4X4 vehicle takes us to the Dos Brazos de Río Tigre community just 25 minutes away. From there we hike for three hours up to the Agujas Biological Station located at 300 meters above sea level. Along the way and once up at the station, visitors see a great variety of mammals and birds, including splendid red parrots (lapa colorada), as well as numerous types of tropical hardwood trees, such as Sweet Cedar and mahogany, along with other exuberant flora.
Visitors then settle in at the Station, a pleasantly rustic lodge: candles and lanterns are used at night instead of electricity, meals are prepared on a wood stove, and rooms have shared baths.
Following lunch, we journey to the Corcovado National Park, returning to the lodge to watch the sunset over the Gulf and then have a relaxing, hearty dinner.
Day 3
After breakfast, visitors learn how to extract gold from beds outside the borders of the park. Following lunch, we begin our guided hike through part of the impressive Corcovado National Park, arriving at the picturesque Dos Brazos of Tiger River community in about three hours. A 4X4 vehicle waiting there will then take us to Puerto Jimenez harbor for lodging and a hearty dinner at the Bosque Mar Cabins, which have private baths with hot water, and charming, comfortable rooms.
Day 4
We begin our seven-kilometer bicycle trip after breakfast over flat land, crossing suspended bridges and passing exotic hardwood tree farms, home to many varieties of tropical birds.
Following a rest stop at Sandal Beach, visitors continue the journey in sea kayaks on the gentle waters of the Golfo Dulce (Sweet Gulf), past mangrove jungles; a brief explanation about their importance to the region’s ecology is provided.
Visitors view shallow coral reefs and watch dolphins at sunset. We return to the Bosque Mar Cabins for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 5
We make an early return trip to San José, passing through mountainous areas and lovely rolling countryside. |
